Congratulations to Dr. Michael Avidan on being named the new Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis effective July 1, 2019.

Dr. Miles Berger spoke at the American Geriatrics Society 2019 Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon on May 2, 2019 together with Dr. Tom Robinson (General Surgeon from Colorado) and Dr. Esther Oh (Geriatrician from Johns Hopkins) as part of the symposium "Optimal Perioperative Care for Older Adults: Multidisciplinary Views". Dr. Berger’s talk was titled "An Anesthesiologist's Perspective on Caring for Older Adults" and covered perspectives in the anesthesiology literature on postoperative delirium and cognitive dysfunction, the new nomenclature for these disorders, a bit about how anesthesiologists approach preoperative assessment, and some thoughts on how anesthesiologists, surgeons and geriatricians can work together (such as through the ASA Brain Health Initiative) to improve postoperative brain health for our older patients.

Dr. Martin Smith, editor of JNA, presented scope of Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology (JNA) and journal progress to the Neuro Anesthesia and Critical Care Society of Great Britain and Ireland (NACCSGBI) Annual Meeting on May 9, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Dr. Rafi Avitsian, SNACC President, gave a talk on International Council of Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT) Fellowship Program at the Neuro Anesthesia and Critical Care Society of Great Britain and Ireland (NACCSGBI) Annual Meeting on May 9, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Dr. Shobana Rajan presented the PBLD “Anesthesia for Stroke- Challenges and Opportunities” at the IARS Annual Meeting held on May 18, 2019 in Montreal, Canada. The session was moderated by Dr. Lauren Berkow who is also a SNACC Member.
