Are you ready for our Annual Meeting? It will take place at the Marriot Marquis, San Francisco on October 11-12. A terrific and exciting Annual Meeting program awaits us this year thanks to Dr. Deepak Sharma and the program planning committee’s effort. For the first time, there will be a Nobel Laureate lecture. Dr. Thomas Südhof, a renowned neuroscientist from Stanford University, who received the 2013 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on vesicles trafficking, will speak about ‘using human neurons to explore mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disorders’. I hope you will join us for the latest science in neuroanesthesiology.

The SNACC Newsletter continues to promote members’ research work that greatly contributes to our specialty. Dr. W. Andrew Kofke and his team’s outstanding research on non-invasive Neuro-metabolic Optical Monitoring (NNOM) technology is featured in this issue. NNOM combines functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) with Diffuse Correlation Spectroscopy (DCS) to measure Cerebral Oxygen Metabolism (CMRO2) and absolute Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF) concurrently and continuously at the bedside. It offers promise for fundamentally altering the approach to neurologically compromised or at-risk patients.

The member section of SNACC’s Newsletter publishes your achievements such as promotion, new publications or books, awards, and grants, etc., which  are perfectly fit for inclusion in this section. I am looking forward to hearing more news from all of you. This issue of SNACC’s Newsletter contains the latest updates from our SNACC President and Committees. The development of neuroanesthesiology in China is very exciting, and I strongly recommend that you read a special report on the current status of neuroanesthesiology practice in China by Dr. Ruquan Han and his colleagues from Beijing Tiantan Hospital. I hope you enjoy every article in this fall issue.

The editorial team is committed to improving the quality of the SNACC Newsletter and to serve you better.  Please send me your suggestions, as your feedback is truly appreciated. I will see you all in San Francisco.
