The Teacher of the Year award is presented to William Lanier, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.A, Professor of Anesthesiology, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. For over a quarter of a century, Dr. Lanier has taught the various aspects of neuroanesthesia to multiple generations of residents and has guided them to a productive career within the field. It is his ability to teach the methods of research and thereby transmit his love of science and investigation that has influenced so many trainees. Teaching residents, fellows and junior faculty to perform quality research and to write excellent manuscripts conveying this information to the scientific and clinical community is a true labor of love that Bill has done consistently and purposefully. As chair of the department’s Appointments and Promotions Committee, Bill has been instrumental in guiding the careers of many academic anesthesiologists. He is an outstanding educator in the classrooms, the operating room, the laboratory and as a mentor for publication and career. He is a key element in the success of the neuroanesthesia group, the anesthesiology department and Mayo Clinic. |
